ThePhotoStick® Omni Troubleshooting Guide:

Why Is ThePhotoStick Omni Transferring Duplicate Files?

Oftentimes, the same photos, videos, documents, and audio files are saved in various places on your computer’s hard disk drive. By default, ThePhotoStick Omni will only back up one copy of the file if it is duplicated in several locations on your hard drive.

ThePhotoStick® Omni determines if two files are duplicates of each other by comparing the filename, size, and last modify date of the two files. If all three of those properties match, the two files are considered duplicates of each other. So, if one of those files is already backed up to the ThePhotoStick® Omni drive, it will not be copied again to the ThePhotoStick® Omni drive.

*NOTE: ThePhotoStick® Omni software will never remove the duplicate files from your computer’s hard drive.

When the “Skip Duplicates” box is checked in the application’s settings, it will result in only one copy of that file being copied to ThePhotoStick® Omni.

If you uncheck this option and ThePhotoStick® Omni finds a duplicate file, it will copy the duplicate file to ThePhotoStick® Omni and rename it on ThePhotoStick® Omni to filename_copy-# (example: DSCF0566_copy-1.JPG).
